Monitoring the Royal Albert Bridge
Repair work has been completed on the historic Royal Albert Bridge, linking Devon and Cornwall in the UK. The scaffolding has been removed and with ongoing support from Amey we are continuing with follow up monitoring and measuring the bridge from the ground with continued success. Our Dynamic Monitoring Station (DMS) has been used to measure bridge structure movement relative to the piers. DMS is particularly suited to short term, dynamic investigations of many kinds including crack investigation, static and dynamic load testing and displacement. Using an Imetrum system should lead to considerable savings in setup time and cost, new information, higher quality data and improved health and safety.
Andy Plumb, Senior Asset Monitoring Specialist for Amey said: “Being able to measure bridge behaviour under load conditions is a critical aspect of asset management as it enables us to make much more informed recommendations on things like maintenance and inspection programmes. That’s why we’re using monitoring systems such as DMS on structures like the iconic Royal Albert Bridge.”
