Pile Dynamics The Standard
Penetration Test (SPT) Analyzer
Application
in Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge
Hong
Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is one of the most impressive infrastructure
projects in China. The bridge will be connected to Hong Kong, Macao and
Zhuhai, connecting three cities. The total length is approximately 50km,
of which the sea bridge and tunnel part is up to 35.6km. It’s size will
be bigger than the existing the longest cross sea bridge Hangzhou Bay
Bridge, it will be the longest cross sea bridge in the world.
16th
May, 2011, The Central 4th Harbor Engineering I&D Institute Limited
acquired geological survey projects for the tunnel Island, The Standard
Penetration Analyzer (SPT Analyzer) was using in this project. Earth
Products China Limited is the first company introduce USA PDI company’SPT
Analyzer to Asia. SPT Analyzer provided reliable data support for HZMB
preliminary survey.
The
SPT Analyzer Determines the Energy Transferred by SPT Hammers using Force
and Velocity Measurements, for Improved Reliability of SPT N-values
SPT Analyzer determines the energy transferred by SPT Hammers using force
and velocity measurements. From the data obtained, it is possible to
adjust the observed raw N value to a normalized N60 value.
With the SPT Analyzer, the reliability and accuracy of SPT N values can
be obtained.
*In
United State, practically annual calibration is required while some
projects need site specific calibrations also.*
•
Conforms to American Society for Testing and Materials Standards (ASTM):
ASTM
D1586: Energy measurements are recommended to normalize results
(N-values) from SPT tests
ASTM
D6066: Normalization of N-values based on energy measurements are
mandatory when SPT results are used to determine the liquefaction
potential of sands
ASTM
D4633: The only ASTM accepted means of determining energy for
normalization of N-values is by force and velocity measurements
•
Conforms to European Standard EN ISO 22476-3
•
Assesses the efficiency and consistency of operation of the SPT hammer on
rigs which may vary from rig to rig, operator to operator and job site to
job site.
•
By determining efficiency of SPT, potentially save time and money.
•
Calculate normalized N60 from Force and Velocity measurements
- Great potential
benefit to industry
- Better
uniformity
- Spot problem
rigs
- Improved soil
predictions using normalized N60 values
- Adjust
procedures to get uniform energy
